CHEGUTU – The newly elected Child President of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Lionel Mazarire, received high praise and a pledge of support from the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, Hon. Marian Chombo, during a congratulatory address delivered this week.
Mazarire, a student from Mashonaland West Province, was recently elected to the prestigious role as part of the Zimbabwe Youth Parliament initiative, which gives young leaders a platform to influence policy and speak on behalf of their peers at national level.
Hon. Chombo described Mazarire’s appointment as a source of immense pride for the province and an important milestone in promoting youth leadership.
“The election of His Excellency Lionel Mazarire is a shining reflection of the potential within Mashonaland West. His leadership, passion, and vision represent the future we are working towards,” said Chombo.
She commended the role played by Mazarire’s family, teachers, and mentors in nurturing his leadership abilities and pledged continued government support for youth development initiatives.
“Young people are the leaders of today, not tomorrow,” she emphasized.
“We are committed to creating opportunities and platforms for them to thrive through innovation, entrepreneurship, and education.”
Hon. Chombo also encouraged President Mazarire to use his new platform to address critical issues affecting Zimbabwean youth, including drug and substance abuse, child marriages, and school dropouts.
“His leadership can bring real change. We are confident he will rise to the challenge and be a voice for the voiceless,” she added.
Mazarire’s victory brings national attention to the growing prominence of Mashonaland West’s youth in leadership roles, and underscores the government’s focus on empowering young people as key contributors to the country’s development.
