CHINHOYI – ZANU PF’s Mashonaland West Province has thrown its weight behind a proposal to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership through to 2030, during a high-level Provincial Coordination Committee (PCC) and Inter-District Meeting held on Saturday at the Chinhoyi University of Technology Gymnasium.
The meeting was dominated by a bold and decisive resolution — Resolution Number 1 — calling for constitutional amendments to allow President Mnangagwa to continue leading beyond 2028.
Provincial Women’s League Chairlady, Constance Shamhu, was vocal in her support, urging the party to move swiftly in implementing the resolution. She emphasized that all provincial chairpersons across ZANU PF’s party wings are fully aligned behind the push.
Mashonaland West Provincial Chairperson, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, reinforced this commitment, clearly stating that the province backs the extension of President Mnangagwa’s term as both Head of State and ZANU PF First Secretary until 2030.
“We are united behind His Excellency’s leadership. This is not just a provincial sentiment — it’s a national priority tied directly to the success of Vision 2030,” she said.
Politburo member and Justice Minister Hon. Ziyambi Ziyambi addressed the gathering, articulating the legal and political rationale behind the resolution.
He stressed that any proposed amendments would align with the ZANU PF Constitution and reaffirmed that the resolution would be tabled at the upcoming ZANU PF Congress in Mutare this October.
“This is about leadership continuity to ensure stability and progress as we implement Vision 2030. The support we’ve seen across all party wings is overwhelming,” Ziyambi said.
The event was also attended by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Marian Chombo, adding further political weight to the resolution.
The enthusiastic endorsement from Mashonaland West signals strong internal support for President Mnangagwa’s continued stewardship of the nation and the ruling party.
The resolution is seen as a key political step in ensuring policy continuity, economic stability, and the full realization of the Vision 2030 development agenda.
As anticipation builds toward the October Congress, all eyes will be on the national leadership’s response to the growing call for extending Mnangagwa’s leadership — a move Mashonaland West sees as essential for “leaving no one and no place behind.”
