Mandipa Hope Rehabilitation is calling for more awareness on drug and substance abuse in communities and lasting solution to the problem.

Speaking during a media tour of the private rehabilitation centre, Carol Tapfumaneyi, the founder and director, said there was need to address the problems that lead people into drugs and substance abuse.

“We would like to have more awareness which is why I think the press is very important to partner with Mandipa Hope so that we can tell the word to everybody possible what is happening with drugs, what are drugs, what are they doing to our people, what can we do to make the communities better, there are rehabilitation centres there are also ways of stopping drugs before we get here.

“How do we do that? why are people getting into drugs, why are our children getting into drugs those are the some of the things that we want people to know out there. Sometimes our children get into drugs because of our own parenting skills. So, we need to make our parents know that,” she said.

“Sometimes our children get into drugs because of lack of things to do. Some of them are frustrated imagine when we were bringing up our kids, we told them that if you go to school and you get educated and you become a degreed person you are going to have a good house, you have good cars and you are going to have a good life. But that is not what’s going on right now.

“Those with degrees are working for those without degrees unfortunately and it can be very frustrating. So, our children are frustrated they’re getting into drugs, they are getting into alcohol.

“We also have people that have left their kids during my generation people left to go to the UK, everybody left school during my time went to UK, and we left children behind what do you think happened to those children?”

The private rehabilitation centre was awarded the prestigious outstanding medical rehabilitation services Gold for Excellence in rehabilitation services at Zimbabwe CEO’s Network Awards.
