The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, has announced the appointment of a new Board for the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), effective 31 December 2025.
Leading hotelier Mr Farai Chimba has been appointed Chairperson of the Board.
Mr Chimba is a seasoned tourism and hospitality professional with extensive local and international experience, having worked under the Leading Hotels of the World brand.
He has previously served on the Joint Zambia–Zimbabwe Tourism Technical Committee and is a former President of the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe as well as former Vice President of the Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe. He holds qualifications in Tourism and Hospitality, a certification in Property Investment and Development from the University of Cape Town, and studies in Business International Relations and Political Economy from the London School of Economics.

Ms Lizzie Makwezwa has been appointed Vice Chairperson. She is a hospitality executive with over 25 years’ experience in leading hotels, including international brands, and brings strong expertise in hotel operations, quality assurance, and high-level event execution.

The Minister expressed confidence that the diverse expertise and experience of the new Board will provide strong strategic leadership and oversight to ZTA, strengthening destination marketing, improving service delivery, and enhancing regulatory frameworks that support industry growth and add value to tourists.
These efforts are expected to significantly contribute to national GDP growth and enhance Zimbabwe’s global image, in line with National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and His Excellency President Cde Dr E.D. Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of attaining an Upper Middle-Income Economy.
The Minister also extended appreciation to the ZTA management and the Ministry staff for their continued dedication and service.
The appointments were made in accordance with Section 194 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, Section 11 of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act [Chapter 10:31], and Section 4(1) of the Tourism Act [Chapter 14:20], following transparent and consultative processes that uphold sound corporate governance and the efficient use of public funds.
