Victoria Falls based Afro-fusion group — Kweseka — was the toast on Saturday night after being crowned Chibuku Road to Fame 2024 winners at colourful event packed with Zimbabwean talent.
The group had 241 points on the leaderboad for their distinctive sound. Kweseka won US$15000 as prize money and also a recording contract courtesy of Delta Beverages’s Chibuku brand.
Boom Jazz from Chinhoyi came second and won US$10000 while in third place was Bulawayo’s Music to Music group who got US$7500.
Kweseka’s bassist and leader Abundance Mutore was over the moon and he dedicated the win to group members.
“I want to dedicate this win to the band and thank everyone for believing in our joint efforts,” he said.
Asked what they would use the money for, Mutore said they would reinvest into the music.
“This is a culmination of the hard work we have been putting in as a group and we are happy that we have been crowned the Chibuku Road to Fame champions.”
Delta Corporation marketing director, Irimayi Muzorewa, confirmed this year’s competition was a notch up.
“These are the proud moments that as Delta Corporation we always look back at and make want to associate more with local talent. Congrats to Kweseka band, they are this year’s winners and wish them well as they grow with the rest of local entertainers, we wish them all the best.
“They showed us their talent, skill and determination which resonates with our mandate to create countless success stories each passing year,” said Muzorewa.
The after-party was all the more exciting with performances by Feli Nandi, Freeman HKD, ChillSpot Family and Master H.
The Chibuku Road to Fame has enabled up-coming artists to participate and showcase their musical talent.
At least 10 provincial final competitions were successfully conducted and the finalists earned a spot to compete at the National final competitions.
