Kariba — The Municipality of Kariba has unveiled an exciting new initiative designed to encourage residents to settle their bills on time.
The “Maintain an Up-to-Date Account Promotion” offers timely payers the chance to win a range of valuable prizes, including a deep freezer, stylish T-shirts, caps, umbrellas, and other surprises.
The first draw is set for tomorrow, January 21, 2025, at 10:00am, at the Nyamhunga Housing Offices. To be eligible, residents must ensure their accounts are paid in full by the time of the draw.
In addition to the promotional prizes, the municipality has expanded its ongoing USD incentive program. Payments made in US dollars will now receive a 30% credit bonus.
For example, a $100 payment will be credited as $130, providing a substantial incentive for residents to stay current on their bills.
The new initiative has received mixed reactions from the community. While many residents are excited about the potential rewards, some have voiced concerns about the affordability of bills.
Mrs Lucia Kanyenze expressed enthusiasm, saying, “It’s a great initiative! Winning a deep freezer would really help my family. I’m planning to pay my bills today to make sure I’m in the draw.”
However, Mr Edmore Zowa, a longtime resident, raised a point of concern: “While the prizes are appealing, I hope the municipality considers lowering the bills first. Some of us are struggling to keep up with payments.”
Despite these concerns, Kariba Municipality remains optimistic about the promotion’s potential to improve bill payment rates and foster a sense of community spirit. Gabriel Mazivofa, the municipality’s spokesperson, emphasized, “We believe this initiative will not only encourage timely payments but also help create a stronger bond among residents.
“Our aim is to reward those who stay on top of their accounts while supporting improved municipal services.”
As the draw approaches, many in Kariba are looking forward to the opportunity to win, while also contributing to the continued improvement of local services through their timely bill payments.
The municipality encourages all residents to participate and take advantage of the enhanced credit offer in the lead-up to the draw.
