In a career spanning 33 years, Jeys Marabini, the popular award- winning music artist of Bulawayo, ‘City of Kings’, will be taking to the road with his ‘Meet the People’ Tour in Harare this weekend from 28 April to 1 May 2023.
Starting on Friday 28 April at Theatre in the Park in the Harare Gardens, the show moves on to the Red Eagle in Ruwa on Saturday 29 April, Bar Rouge at Long Chen Plaza on Sunday 30 April, and wraps up on Monday 01 May (Workers Day) at PJC Restaurant and Guesthouse
in Amby, Greendale.
Well known and much loved with a wide fan base in Zimbabwe, Marabini’s music is self-categorized as Afro Centric, with elements of traditional rhythms and melodies, fused with Marabi, Afropop and Afrojazz – a musical smorgasbord of well-crafted and highly danceable songs and heart-warming lyrics to please everyone.
Along with popular favourites from the 10 albums under his belt, the current tour will feature his latest offering, “Xola” (Forgive), include hits like “Thula Sizwe” (peace be in Africa my land),
Bambolwami, and Skin Colour, a song that talks about being proud of who you are, featuring the lovely Tariro NeGitari.
In Jan 2023, Jeys Marabini received the Music Lifetime Achievement award from the TESMA Awards 2022.
He has performed widely in his home City of Kings, and other Zimbabwean stages – in Harare including the Zimbabwe Jazz Festival in October 2022, and also in the USA, Austria, India, Canada, South Africa.
Along the way he has performed with a wide range of musicians and shared the stage with world and Africa acclaimed artists such as Peter Gabriel, the late Oliver Mtukudzi, Hugh Masekela and Nana Coyote of Stimela; and Ringo Madlingozi, Zahara, the Soweto String Quartet, Ladysmith Black Mambazo among others.
While this is an independently self-funded tour, Marabini extends special thanks and appreciation to Mushandirapamwe Hotel in Highfields, Harare, for offering to accommodate the band for the duration of the tour – a huge and crucial support for any travelling group.
The hotel has been good a supporter of Zimbabwean artists for decades, dating back to pre-Independence.
Bluez Café and Nhimbe Trust are proud to have worked with Marabini on several occasions in the past.
