Millionaire and philanthropist Sir Wicknell Chivayo says he is not seeking a political office although he is staunch Zanu PF supporter.
The Intratrek chief executive and flamboyant businessman has been spending big monies on his personal top-of the range cars and those of musicians affiliated to Zanu PF and fellow congregants.
Sir Wicknell on Monday told Capital FM Champions League Breakfast Show hosts Pathisani Sibanda and Tinashe Chukuse that he was not a politician and would never seek a political office.
“I want to be close to politicians, eat and have fun with them but I never want a political office. I don’t want to wear suite and tie and spend hours having meetings in rooms without air conditions.
“What I enjoy is to be jet setting, going to Louis Vuitton and shop,” Sir Wicknell said live on radio.
Asked to comment on suggestions that he should spend his money on developing the country, Sir Wicknell said Government already has plans to upgrade hospitals.
“The moment people want to advise me on how to spend my money I quickly block them because government is looking to that,” he said.
Interestingly, Sir Wicknell opened up about his upbringing after his father John Chivayo died in 1998.
“Even without my father I acted a rich man’s kid at school. I was never short of anything and i thought perhaps I would attend to rural school but NO, I was assisted by strangers. My father’s close friends the likes of Alex Mashamanda, who was my father’s banker, Air Marshall Josiah Tungamirai and Robson Musanhi who owned a buses.
“So, these are the people who paid my school at Group A schools. Mashamhanda would write open cheques for me ask how much I needed as pocket money because after my father died my mother had no money so they paid my fees,” he said.
According to Sir Wicknell it was this upbringing that taught him to support others especially those from poor backgrounds.
Coupled with this, he has lived his life in line with prophecies from his apostolic sect to never forsake fellow congregants on his way to being a billionaire.
