Harare – The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) continues to solidify its position as Zimbabwe’s leading innovation-driven university, with its latest achievement being the graduation of 170 certified Data Protection Officers (DPOs) in partnership with the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held in Harare, HIT Vice Chancellor Prof. Eng. Quinton Chamunorwa Kanhukamwe celebrated the milestone as a major leap in the university’s mission to blend academic excellence with national development imperatives.
“This training course exemplifies the very spirit of Education 5.0,” said Prof. Kanhukamwe. “We are not just teaching laws and frameworks—we are equipping our students with cutting-edge, real-world competencies in data protection, cybersecurity, and innovation.”
HIT’s robust academic evolution includes the establishment of a School of Information Science and Technology, home to one of the largest computing faculties in Southern Africa.
The university also founded a Department of Information Security and Assurance, responsible for training a critical mass of cybersecurity professionals crucial to the country’s digital transformation.
With a curriculum that includes Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, and ethical digital practices, HIT is preparing its graduates to not only keep pace with global trends but to shape them.
“We are building cadres at the very edge of Zimbabwe’s modernisation and industrialisation agenda,” Prof. Kanhukamwe added.
“This is not academic theory. This is nation-building through education.”
