In keeping with international operational standards, Zimbabwe’s hospitality industry has set up a partnership with a leading insurance company to facilitate access to essential insurance products by hotels and other operators.

At a signing ceremony in Harare, the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe and FBC Insurance partnered a scheme to help ensure that HAZ members have easy access to public liability, fire and other insurance offerings.

The event was attended by Dr Taka Munyanyiwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, who praised the scheme as valuable and important.

‘It helps operators conduct business with the highest possible standards of assurance to guests that all situations are covered by their insurance, something that is expected of us by international travellers,’ he said.

The agreement was signed at the upmarket Coghlan Boutique Hotel in Harare by HAZ President Emma Kativhu and FBC Insurance Managing Director Alice Shumba, making it immediately operational.

Both signatories highlighted the key aspects of the arrangement, which brings cost-effective and comprehensive offers to hospitality operators, not only for public liability and fire but also for all requirements of operators of all types of hospitality.

‘This adds great value to the HAZ service offering to its members across the country and will benefit guests as well as operators, because the insurance provides assurance of cover in areas of great importance,’ said Ms Kativhu.

FBC Insurance Managing Director Alice Chieza-Shumba said the tourism and hospitality industry plays a vital role in driving national development, job creation, and international competitiveness.

“The sector is a gateway to investment and a key pillar of our economy, and it deserves robust, reliable risk management solutions that enable operators to thrive confidently. This agreement speaks directly to that need,” she said.

“Through this collaboration, we are proud to bring to the industry a dedicated Public Liability and Fire Cover solution, designed to protect establishments within the Hospitality industry, their patrons, and ultimately the reputation of Zimbabwe as a safe and welcoming destination.

“By embedding this cover into HAZ member services, we are not only promoting regulatory compliance but also contributing to the upliftment of industry standards and the long-term sustainability of operators-large and small.”

HAZ is the representative association for hospitality operators, including hotels and hotel groups, and is a key member of the Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe family.
