Fresh from winning Best Male Gospel Artist at the Clima Africa Awards in Lagos, Nigeria, Zimbabwe gospel sensation — Everton Mlalazi — is now eyeing to bring home the coveted Crown Gospel Music Award.
Mlalazi has been nominated for Best of Africa Gospel Artist award at the 16th Crown Gospel Music Awards on 26 November 2023.
The I Surrender singer will battle it out against Sesame and Tsepo Lesola both from Botswana and OV Prince from Nigeria.
The other Zimbabwean musician to ever win Crown Gospel Music Awards was songstress Janet Manyowa.
The awards are one of the many exciting programmes of the World Gospel Powerhouse and are a platform for saluting, celebrating and rewarding excellence within the Gospel Music Industry in South Africa and beyond.
Mlalazi represented Zimbabwe well in West Africa where no other genre besides gospel music has received such amount of attention and recognition.
With the Clima award it meant that Mlalazi’s music influence is finally getting recognition beyond Zimbabwean borders something which he has always wanted in a long time.
An ardent Seventh Day Adventist Church member Mlalazi — who leads the Worship Therapy band (the resident band and vocalists for the EM brand) — has created a vibrant gospel sound that is inspired by his love for music and childhood musical influence.
One of his best collaborations to date featured Grammy-award winning acapella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, from South Africa.
