Clive Mono Mukundu: Giving Music a Voice Beyond the Sound

By Jonathan Mbiriyamveka

In a quiet studio nestled in the heart of Zimbabwe, acclaimed music producer and author Clive Mono Mukundu sits before a microphone, ready to hit record on another episode of The Artist To Artist MonoCasts.

What began as a birthday tradition has grown into a vital platform for musical dialogue and education.

Mukundu’s journey with podcasts began in 2010, when he started uploading educational music videos to YouTube. “At first, it was just here and there,” he reflects.

“Then I started podcasts around my birthdays, as a way to celebrate. They began gaining traction, so I started doing them weekly—and now, it’s several times a week.”

But this wasn’t just a hobby. His motivation stemmed from a deep desire to enrich Zimbabwe’s musical landscape.

“The educational video essays were simply intended to educate fellow Zimbabweans about the technical, theoretical, and academic aspects of our music,” he explains.

“It was a way to spark interest in local music.”

Over time, his content evolved. With segments like The Artist To Artist MonoCasts and The Jam & Monoverzation, Mukundu began diving deeper, holding conversations with fellow musicians. These weren’t your typical celebrity interviews.

“I ask technical and behind-the-scenes questions about music—things only an experienced musician can understand,” he says.

“Viewers get to hear a side of music they’ve never encountered before.”

Unlike many modern entertainment platforms, Mukundu’s approach remains rooted in integrity. “I avoid sensationalism and only share clean content,” he affirms.

The core of these discussions revolves around the craft itself—technique, music management, and industry insights.

For aspiring artists, Mukundu’s work is more than inspiring; it’s a blueprint. His dedication offers a backstage pass to the often-misunderstood world of music creation, bridging gaps between generations of Zimbabwean musicians.

Through The Artist To Artist MonoCasts, Clive Mono Mukundu isn’t just making noise—he’s making music matter.
