Zimbabwe’s Kundai Benhura Crowned Miss Africa: From Tech Grad to Queen of the Continent

Calabar, Nigeria — On the evening of April 20th, the spotlight fell on Zimbabwe’s own Kundai Benhura as she was crowned Miss Africa 2025 at the Calabar International Convention Centre in Nigeria.
After a grueling week of boot camp with 14 other contestants from across the continent, Kundai rose above the rest—not just as a beauty queen, but as a symbol of determination, intellect, and grace.
Proudly representing Zimbabwe, the 29-year-old model was not new to the pageant world. “This was my fourth time entering Miss Africa,” she shared, “and I had always ended at the semi-finalist stage.”

But this time, her consistency paid off. “It’s the girl who is consistent that stands out,” she noted, reflecting on the highs and lows of the competition.
That tenacity is what finally earned her the crown she had been chasing throughout her twenties.
Strutting the ramp was a surreal moment for Kundai. “Time moved too quickly,” she said, recalling the adrenaline rush.
“I couldn’t believe I was finally walking the stage I’d been dreaming of all my 20s.”
More than just a pretty face, Kundai holds a BSc in Information Technology and a certificate in Networking Engineering from Pearson Institute in South Africa.
She embodies the new standard in pageantry—where beauty meets brains and a heart of service.
“In 2025, it’s not enough to be beautiful,” she asserted. “You need to back that up with intellect and purpose.”
As a former Miss Hope International Zimbabwe 2023, Kundai understands the power of representation and mentorship.
“Pageants force you to become the total package,” she explained. “The discipline, time, and effort they require help shape the girl child into someone who can contribute meaningfully to society.”
Kundai’s message to aspiring models is clear and powerful: “It’s never too late. Prepare, Pray, Persevere, and Trust your gut.”
She emphasizes the importance of readiness and self-education, encouraging young girls to find their place in the evolving and inclusive modeling industry.
When it comes to fashion, Kundai dreams of working with “A Tribe Called Zimbabwe” by Nomakhosazana Ncube.
“They do a great job showcasing the royalty that is Zimbabwean culture,” she says, blending her love for fashion with her passion for history and heritage.
Standing at 165cm and weighing 70kg, Kundai proudly represents the diversity of African beauty.
She also carries the creative legacy of her uncle, world-renowned sculptor Dominic Benhura. “All my life, I’ve admired his excellence and craftsmanship. I am honoured to be inspired by him.”
From the tech lab to the runway, Kundai Benhura’s journey is a celebration of perseverance, self-belief, and the multifaceted power of the modern African woman.
