Whenever two great friends who are miles apart meet there is always great enthusiasm to reconnect and reminisce about good old days.
Such is the feeling and vibe between painter — David Chinyama and fine artist Masimba Hwati — who have known each other since college days back home in Zimbabwe.
The two are hosting a virtual exhibition aptly titled ‘Diasporic Meditations’, a joint exhibition and insighful glimpse of small works by Chinyama alongside long-time friend and compatriot Hwati.
The exhibition opened on December at Art-Space Africa and will run until Janurary 2021 in 3D virtual on Kunstmatrix
Featured on the collection are small drawings and mixed media paintings by Zimbabweans Chinyama and Hwati.
The two artists reconnect for this collaborative show after years of pursuing solo projects to showcase a body works spanning a period of over five years ad inspired by personal experiences of the years gone by.
Hwati and Chinyama have collaborated on projects in Harare and international since 2007. Chinyama works from his Toronto base and also spends time working in different cities around the world while Hwati works from Vienna, US, Capetown and Harare.
Disaporic Meditation exhibition transcends as a documentation of the internal and external struggles of transnational artists who traverse boarders working in and between spaces.
David’s palette of extremely rich and gradient hue is unformed by both the landscape and the geo political or social influences always hidden within it. Hwati’s drawings are detailed.
