The lifeless body of local businessman Alfred Mufudzi Gamanya, 60, was found hanging from a tree at Kilmorac Farm on February 8, 2025.
His body’s discovery comes days after he was reported missing, sparking growing concerns about the circumstances behind his disappearance.
Assistant Inspector Effort Chapoto, Acting Provincial Police Spokesperson, confirmed that Gamanya had traveled from Kwekwe to his farm, reportedly to purchase pigs for his farming business.
However, his visit took a troubling turn when he received distressing phone calls from police authorities, informing him that he was under investigation in connection with the purchase of stolen cattle.
“After receiving those calls, Gamanya abruptly left the farm and disappeared, prompting his family and friends to report him missing on February 3,” Chapoto explained.
Despite thorough search efforts, no new information emerged until February 8, when Learnmore Mugona, 32, who was herding cattle nearby, made the grim discovery of Gamanya’s body.
Mugona immediately informed farm manager Mercy Mupararwa and local authorities. Upon arrival, police observed that the body had already begun to decompose, indicating that Gamanya may have died several days prior to its discovery.
The police have since transported the body to Chegutu District Hospital for a postmortem, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.
Chapoto issued a warning to the public, emphasizing the importance of cooperating with law enforcement and avoiding evasion.
“This incident serves as a harsh reminder that fleeing from the law can lead to tragic outcomes,” he said.
As the community mourns this loss, the police continue to seek information surrounding Gamanya’s connections and the events leading up to his death. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
