HARARE — Apphia Nyasha Musavengana has formally resigned as a board member of Miss Universe Zimbabwe, effective 26 August 2026, bringing an end to her tenure with the prestigious pageant organization.
In a resignation letter addressed to the board, Musavengana expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed her continued support for the organisation’s objectives.
“It has been a privilege and an honour to serve on the Board of Miss Universe Zimbabwe and to contribute, in my capacity, to an organisation that provides a meaningful platform for the empowerment, development and advancement of young women in Zimbabwe,” she wrote.
A Brief But Impactful Tenure
Musavengana‘s appointment to the board was announced in March 2026 as part of a restructured leadership team led by chairperson Danya Kabwebwe.
The board featured a mix of experienced professionals and creatives, with Musavengana serving alongside members including Zodwa Mkandla, Tendai Kevin Zhou, and Tafadzwa Zimoyo.
At the time of her appointment, Musavengana had unveiled a bold vision to transform Miss Universe Zimbabwe into a world-class platform for beauty, brains, and purpose.
She had pledged to strengthen brand positioning, enhance contestant development programmes, and improve stakeholder engagement.
“I aim to bring a more structured and globally competitive approach to the pageant,” she said upon her appointment.
“This includes strengthening brand positioning, enhancing contestant development programmes, improving stakeholder engagement and introducing innovative fundraising strategies”.
A Multifaceted Leader
Beyond her pageant role, Musavengana is a well-known figure in youth empowerment and governance circles.
She recently concluded her tenure as the outgoing SADC Youth Leader in Empowerment, where she championed youth participation in regional decision-making and advocated for policies creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs, women, and marginalised groups.
She is also the founder of Concord for Young Women in Business Global and serves as an African Union Envoy Ambassador.
Her career began in journalism, serving as a Senior Private Investigating Journalist and Southern Region representative for Media Mass.
Resignation Amidst a Changing Landscape
Musavengana’s resignation comes at a time of significant change for the pageant industry in Zimbabwe.
Just days earlier, Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe titleholder Malaika Mushandu was dethroned after 11 days and has since taken the matter to the High Court.
In her resignation letter, Musavengana struck a gracious tone, saying her decision was made “with careful consideration and appreciation for the opportunity to have served.”
“I remain supportive of the organisation’s objectives and wish the Board, management, contestants and the entire Miss Universe Zimbabwe family continued success in the future,” she wrote.
She also acknowledged the leadership of the organisation, thanking the Chairperson, the CEO, and her fellow board members for their guidance and support during her tenure.
The organisation has not yet announced a replacement for Musavengana’s position on the board.
