Ammara Brown talks Second Album ‘Flaming Lily’ and a Two-Day Launch Celebration

Staff Writer

Award-winning musician Ammara Brown is set to make a highly anticipated return to the entertainment scene with the release of her second studio album, Flaming Lily, a 12-track project that takes listeners through a deeply personal journey of love, heartbreak, joy, growth and the experiences that shape human life.

The album, which is Ammara’s first full-length project in seven years, marks an important new chapter in her musical career. Although she has released several singles during the intervening years, Flaming Lily brings together a body of work that reflects her evolution as an artist and as a woman.

Described by her management as a multidimensional album, Flaming Lily explores different emotions, sounds and experiences while maintaining a strong personal narrative.

“For me, Flaming Lily is about embracing all the different seasons of life and allowing myself to tell those stories honestly,” said Ammara Brown.

“There is love, there is heartbreak, there are moments of joy, vulnerability, strength and growth. These are experiences that make us human, and I believe that everyone will find a piece of themselves somewhere in this album.”

Ammara said the project represents a significant period of reflection and growth in her life.

“This album is very close to my heart because it comes after a long journey. I have grown so much as a person and as an artist since my first album, and Flaming Lily allows me to share some of that journey with my audience. It is personal, but at the same time, I believe the stories are universal,” she said.

According to her manager, Chido Musasiwa, the album intentionally moves across different emotional and musical spaces.

“Flaming Lily is multidimensional in the sense that it has different feels. It is a very personal album where Ammara talks about her life journey. Every song will be able to touch somebody in one way or another, whether it is a love story, a heartbreak or a joyful moment. It captures the life cycle of a human being,” said Musasiwa.

While the album has a strong female perspective, Musasiwa said its themes extend beyond gender and are expected to connect with audiences from different backgrounds.

The Flaming Lily launch campaign will officially begin with an exclusive corporate fundraising dinner on 4 September at Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles.

The evening is designed to combine music, business networking and fundraising, creating an environment where corporate leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals can connect while experiencing an intimate performance by Ammara Brown.

Individual tickets are priced at US$100, while a table of 10 costs US$1,000. The event has a limited capacity of 220 guests across 22 tables.

Ammara will perform selected songs from Flaming Lily alongside some of her established hits, while other Zimbabwean artists are expected to curtain-raise at the event.

The organisers are also inviting corporates and potential sponsors to partner with the Flaming Lily campaign.

The corporate dinner presents businesses with an opportunity to showcase their products and services, network with other companies and explore potential partnerships in a business-to-business environment.

“We want this to be more than just an album launch. We want to create an environment where corporates can meet, network, showcase what they do and support Zimbabwean creative talent at the same time,” said Musasiwa.

She added that sponsorship and corporate participation will also contribute towards the project’s broader visual ambitions.

The celebrations will continue on 5 September with the public launch of Flaming Lily at Reps Theatre.

The event will begin at 8pm and run until midnight, with Ammara Brown joined by a selection of Zimbabwean artists for an evening of live music and entertainment.

The venue will accommodate approximately 450 people.

Early-bird tickets are priced at US$20, while tickets purchased on the day will cost US$30. A limited VIP section will also be available at US$80, with only 30 VIP places available.

Members of the corporate community who attend the fundraising dinner are also encouraged to attend the public launch and experience the album in a different setting alongside Ammara’s wider fan base.

The Reps Theatre celebration will culminate at midnight as Flaming Lily officially becomes available to the public on 6 September.

The album release will coincide with Ammara Brown’s birthday, creating a double celebration for the Zimbabwean music star.

The celebrations will continue on Sunday, 6 September, when Ammara marks her birthday.

The timing of the release gives fans an opportunity to celebrate both the arrival of a new body of music and a significant personal milestone in the artist’s life.

An important component of the Flaming Lily campaign is the ambition to create a music video for each of the album’s 12 tracks.

The team hopes that proceeds and support generated through the launch events will help fund the production of music videos that will give each song its own visual identity.

“We are hoping, with what will happen at the corporate dinner and what will happen at the launch itself, that we’ll be able to do a video for every single one of the 12 songs,” said Musasiwa.

The initiative is intended to extend the life of the album beyond its release and give audiences an opportunity to experience the stories behind the songs through both music and film.

Excitement around Flaming Lily has already been building following a private listening session held ahead of the launch.

The session brought together some of the artists and creatives who collaborated with Ammara on the project, as well as selected influencers and other members of the creative community.

The gathering gave guests an opportunity to listen to the album in its entirety and gain insight into the creative direction behind the project.

Musasiwa said the response was highly encouraging.

“We had such a resounding response from the people who attended the listening session. It was exciting to see how differently people connected with the songs and the stories. That gave us even more confidence that Flaming Lily is something special,” she said.

After seven years since the release of her previous album, Flaming Lily represents a significant milestone for Ammara Brown and her growing body of work.

The album brings together her experiences as an artist and woman while exploring themes that are both intimate and relatable.

With a two-day launch programme combining corporate networking, fundraising, live performances, public entertainment and a birthday celebration, the Flaming Lily campaign aims to create an experience that goes beyond the traditional album launch.

Fans, corporates, brands, music lovers and potential sponsors are being invited to become part of the journey and support the next chapter of Ammara Brown’s musical career.
