HARARE – The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, ZTA, has introduced spot fines for operators of tourism-designated facilities who fail to comply with regulatory requirements, as part of efforts to maintain high operating standards.
The ZTA announced in a statement that the penalties take effect immediately for facilities operating without registration, valid licenses, or meeting minimum standards.
Penalty Fee Schedule
Operating without registration per month:
Operating without a valid license: USD 200 per month, charged for a maximum of two years
Late submission of renewal and new application: USD 100
Unapproved alterations: USD 500
Other penalties:
Failure to display regulatory licenses where accessible by law enforcement and clients: USD 100
Failure to submit statistical data to a designated tourism officer: USD 100
DTFs that do not meet minimum standards: USD 100
Failure to keep guest records in a tourist facility: USD 100
ZTA said the move is “in line with its commitment to maintaining high operating standards” in the sector.
“Compliance is not optional”
Operators have been urged to ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements to avoid penalties.
“Compliance is not optional. Register, operate legally and protect the integrity of Zimbabwe’s tourism sector!” the notice reads.
The authority is responsible for registering and grading tourism facilities under Zimbabwe’s tourism regulations.
