HARARE – First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa has expressed profound grief following two separate tragedies that claimed the lives of ten people, including seven primary school learners.
In a statement released on Thursday, the First Lady said her heart was shattered by the cruel loss of young lives in a devastating kombi fire incident in Senga, Gweru, as well as the recovery of three bodies from an unsecured sewer pond in Budiriro, Harare.
“It is painful beyond words to imagine the dreams, laughter and bright futures that were so tragically cut short,” Dr Mnangagwa said, referring to the seven learners who perished in the kombi fire.
Budiriro Tragedy Deepens National Grief
The First Lady also turned her attention to the heartbreaking scene in Budiriro, where three bodies were recovered from a sewer pond that had reportedly been left open for months.
“I am equally saddened by the cruel loss of lives in Budiriro, Harare, where three bodies were recovered from an unsecured sewer pond reportedly left open for months,” she said.
“No family should have to endure such a painful loss.”
A Call for Comfort and Strength
Dr Mnangagwa offered her heartfelt condolences to all bereaved families, sharing in their grief during what she described as an unimaginably difficult time.
“I share in the grief of all the bereaved families and offer my heartfelt condolences,” she said. “I also wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.”
She concluded with a prayer for the nation:
“May God grant comfort and strength to everyone affected, and may the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
The kombi fire incident in Senga, Gweru, claimed the lives of seven primary school learners, sending shockwaves across the country. Meanwhile, authorities in Budiriro continue to investigate circumstances surrounding the unsecured sewer pond that led to the loss of three lives.
Investigations into both tragedies are ongoing.
