Taboom Media and GALA Queer Archive recently launched Whispers and Shouts, the third volume in Queer Activism in Africa anthology series.
In Whispers and Shouts, 21 more human rights defenders from across the continent share their origin stories and activist journeys. These intimate testimonies of strength and vulnerability, all available in both English and French, document and elevate the fight for LGBTQI+ equality.
Queer and ally artists bring each story to life with original illustrations that depict the struggles and triumphs of this collective movement. The result is a powerful anthology of resistance, resilience, and recognition.
Like its predecessors Hopes and Dreams That Sound Like Yours (May 2021) and Courage to Share (Aug. 2022), Whispers and Shouts emerged from a Media Advocacy for LGBTQI+ Equality workshop Taboom Media hosted in May 2023 with activists from nearly 20 countries.
Please find a low-res PDF version of the anthology attached, and visit website for High-Resolution (56 MB) or Mid-Resolution (16 MB) or Low-Resolution (6 MB) versions, all of which are free to share.
Taboom and GALA will spotlight three stories each week in the coming months. You can follow on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and share these stories and illustrations far and wide (#WhispersAndShouts #QueerStories #QueerActivism #QueerRights #QueerArchive #QueerAfrica).
