A 38-year-old Egyptian national, Mohamed Azmy Youseef Abdelsattar Gaber, has sentenced to four months in prison by Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo.
Two months was suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit the same offense again.
Since he is a repeat offender, he will serve two months in prison.
He was arrested in Kuwadzana 5, Harare, by Immigration Officers from the Department of Immigration’s Compliance Unit.
The Department of Immigration says there is a growing concern among security stakeholders in Zimbabwe regarding the increase in cases of foreign nationals, entering Zimbabwe masquerading as tourist.
They later engage in retailing in places such as Kuwadzana, Kambuzuma, Hatfield, Waterfalls, Ruwa and some as far as Masvingo and Bulawayo without authorization.
The goods sold are often smuggled into Zimbabwe or imported disguised under identities of locals who are largely unaware of the grand scheme of these activities.
