Harare – The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has issued a public warning regarding a circulating online scam falsely using the Authority’s name to lure unsuspecting individuals into a fraudulent recruitment scheme.
The scam, which has been making the rounds via WhatsApp, claims that the ZTA is hiring people for “online survey provider” roles, offering daily payments between USD $28 and $280. Victims are instructed to follow a link to a YouTube channel identified as @tourismzimbabwe5794 to proceed with the so-called application process.
In a strongly worded statement, the ZTA disassociated itself from the messages and the YouTube channel, clarifying that it is not conducting any such recruitment exercise.
“This is a scam, and the public is urged to exercise extreme caution,” the Authority stated.
The ZTA is encouraging the public to verify the authenticity of any communication claiming to be from the Authority by consulting its official website: www.zimbabwetourism.net.
The tourism body is also advising citizens not to share personal information or make any payments in response to such fraudulent messages.
“Stay vigilant,” the notice concluded. “Do not be deceived by these impersonators.”
This alert serves as a reminder for the public to remain cautious when interacting with unsolicited online job offers, particularly those promising unusually high returns.
