MUBAIRa — The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Mubaira has appealed to farmers who recently lost cattle to stock theft to come forward and identify 62 recovered beasts suspected to have been stolen.
The cattle were recovered at Plot 102 Fort Martin in Norton following a report by Allen Mutimukululu of Chikunyahwa Village, Chief Mashayamombe, Mhondoro, who lost 15 animals on November 13.
Police have since arrested three suspects — Piwainashe Watyoka, Howard Binda, and Tyson Pearson — at Mareverwa Village in Mhondoro.
The trio reportedly led officers to the farm where the cattle were being kept. A Toyota Prado allegedly used to transport the stolen animals was also recovered and is believed to be owned by Shadreck Chivambe, who is still at large.
According to ZRP Mubaira, nine farmers have so far managed to positively identify 28 of the recovered cattle.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are now appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects, including Chivambe and Previous Makaza.
“We are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to book and recover the stolen cattle. We urge farmers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police,” ZRP Mubaira said in a statement.
Farmers who suspect their cattle may be among those recovered are encouraged to visit Mubaira Police Station with proof of ownership and identification marks for verification.
Police also urged livestock owners to brand their cattle and maintain proper records, including photographs, to make future identification easier in cases of theft.
The recovered cattle are being kept at a secure location and will be released to verified owners once all identification processes are completed.
