Kariba– In a match overshadowed by controversy and inclement weather, ZPC Kariba triumphed over Kwekwe United with a resounding 5-0 victory on Saturday.
The clash, held under relentless rain, highlighted not only Kwekwe United’s struggles on the pitch but also significant internal strife within the team.
Kwekwe United arrived at the stadium over 40 minutes late, a delay stemming from a dispute between players and management regarding unpaid allowances.
This discord raised eyebrows among fans and officials alike, and its detrimental effect on the team’s performance was palpable throughout the match.
Head coach Saul Chaminuka addressed the media post-match, expressing frustration over the lack of preparation.
“We arrived late and had little time to warm up or strategize,” he said. “Senior players showed up just before the game, and we clearly lacked cohesion. There are issues within the team that I cannot fully disclose, but it’s clear they are affecting our performance.”
Despite the challenges faced by Kwekwe United, ZPC Kariba‘s head coach Newton Chitewe was buoyed by his team’s performance.
“I’m thrilled with how the players executed our game plan, especially considering the conditions,” Chitewe stated with satisfaction. “I expected a tougher match, but we capitalized on their errors.”
The standout player for ZPC Kariba was Charles Munyanyi, who netted a hat-trick with goals in the 8th, 48th, and 55th minutes.
Munashe Kamwendo contributed with a goal in the 19th minute, while Collen Muleya rounded off the scoring later in the game. Kwekwe United’s defense, particularly players Dennis Dauda and Nigel Tinarwo, struggled to contain the relentless onslaught, leaving the backline exposed throughout the match.
