The festive season brought a remarkable turnaround for Zimbabwe’s tourism industry, with operators across the country reporting significant increases in business.
This surge aligns with Zimbabwe’s recent acknowledgement as a top travel destination by Forbes Travel Magazine, which heralded the nation as the best place to visit in 2025.
Adding to the accolades, the iconic Victoria Falls has been named the best site to visit in 2026 by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.
This recognition has not only bolstered Zimbabwe’s international image but has also reignited local enthusiasm for tourism.
Tourism operators, including safari companies and accommodation providers, attribute the increase to comprehensive government initiatives promoting tourism.
These efforts have been spearheaded by Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Barbara Rwodzi, under the guidance of President Mnangagwa.
The collaborative approach to reengagement has proven effective in revitalizing the sector.
Statistics from the third quarter of 2025 reveal that Zimbabwe welcomed 496,668 tourists—a notable 10% rise compared to the 459,229 visitors during the same period in 2024.
This increase highlights the ongoing recovery and growth potential within Zimbabwe’s tourism landscape.
Furthermore, the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, currently being hosted by Zimbabwe, has emerged as a strategic advantage for the nation’s sports tourism sector.
This highly anticipated event is likely to draw thousands of international visitors, providing a boost to the local economy while showcasing the country’s top-notch facilities to a global audience.
In addition to inbound tourism, there’s a noteworthy increase in domestic travel, with locals eager to explore the diverse attractions their country has to offer.
As citizens engage more with local heritage and natural wonders, it’s expected that this trend will further motivate the government and private sector to invest in tourism infrastructure and marketing.
The positive trajectory of Zimbabwe’s tourism sector is not just a win for stakeholders, but it also lays a solid foundation for economic stability and growth in the coming years.
With continued support from the government and the community, Zimbabwe is set to cement its position as a premier tourist destination in the region.
