Zimbabwean dancehall artists — Winky D and Buffalo Souljah — will face-off at the International Reggae & World Music Awards scheduled for May 2, 2021 in Jamaica.
Both Winky D and Buffalo Souljah have collaborated before on a hit called Rugare and have been working together since.
The two are up for the Best African Dancehall Entertainer award including the likes of Shatta Wale whom Buffalo Souljah has bad beef with previously, Stonebwoy another Ghanaian, Patoranking from Nigeria.
According to the website www.irawman.com the decision to vote should be based on materials released between January 2020 and December 2020.
“Also consider the social relevance of the materials, originality and sales, the scope of local and national, quality of performances and stage appearances.”
Considering all these factors it appears the Zimbabwean Winky D stand a great chance of landing the award while Buffalo Souljah who is a Zimbabwean based in South Africa is also a strongest link.
However, this is not to say Patoranking and Stonebwoy are pushovers. NO! in fact, as we know in West Africa there are large numbers.
The only fair part is if musicians don’t mobilise their fans to vote them then they will be up for a huge surprise when the awards are broadcast live.
Another category worth noting is the Best New Entertainer where the Jerusalema singer Noncebo Zikode is up against Jamaica’s Sevana, Skillibeng and Alicia Harley.
In the Best Afrobeat Entertainer, Nigerians Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid and South Africa’s aster KG and Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz are up for the award.
This is tough one because the nominees are heavy hitters and it remains to be seen who will walk away with gong.
All the artists have so far been consistent with both Burna Boy and Wizkid winning Grammys this year. But this is when being nominated counts as everyone is a winner!
