I met and worked with Cynthia Mare once at a comedy night I had arranged in Harare in 2015.
We decided to have a few musicians to perform during the comedy show, and we got in-touch with Cynthia Mare management who was Tytan and booked her to do a few songs Solo during the comedy night.
I had never met Cynthia, but I knew her music which I liked as a fan, and during that time she was getting airplay on radio and doing a lot of live performances in Harare.
My admiration of Cynthia Mare work was also in the explosive manner she had launched her Third album, which was beamed live on ZBCTV and radio the same night she was doing a Live performance launch at 7 Arts Theatre.
I met Cynthia backstage before and after her solo performance at our comedy night, and what struck me the most about her was how she was meticulous and very professional in her conduct.
She performed solo with no band, and she dazzled on stage. The jam packed predominantly comedy fans auditorium enjoyed her performance.
After her set we spoke a little and I promised to work with her again with her full band in the near future when we hosted music concerts. Sadly, this never happened as she relocated to the UK a year or so later I was to learn.
Whilst she is not active on the music scene at present, I strongly believe one day she will bounce back, and we will work with her again.
Cynthia Mare is a Zimbabwean Afro-fusion song writer and singer. She has produced 4 albums to date.
She rose to national stardom in 2010 when she released her second album, Summer of Love. Cynthia reinvented her music, ditching the ‘Not Another Diet’ hip-hop genre to Afro-pop.
Her 3rd album is called “Songs My Mother Loved” which was a dedication to her late mum with the emotional hit track “Zuva Rimwe”.
Talented artist Cynthia Mare has pocketed an avalanche of awards in Zimbabwe; we yearn for her to produce more music and get back on stage. Like she sang “Moto Ngaubvire,” light up our stage again Cynthia!
She was one of the first G-Tel brand ambassadors.
