Presidential Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara has called on Zimbabweans to emulate the selflessness demonstrated by the biblical Joseph, urging citizens to support one another to ensure collective prosperity and inclusive national development.
Speaking at the funeral of the late Reverend Chitanda at Brundish in Chinhoyi yesterday, Dr Tungwarara said Joseph’s generosity during the famine—when he provided food for his relatives despite holding high office in Egypt—offered important lessons for modern society.
“Joseph helped his brothers even when they did not recognise him. He used his position to uplift others,” he said.
Dr Tungwarara linked this spirit of compassion to President Mnangagwa’s philosophy, “Nyika Inovakwa neVene Vayo/Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo — No One and No Place Left Behind,” which aims to steer Zimbabwe toward an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
During the gathering, he donated US$10,000 towards empowerment initiatives and encouraged Zimbabweans to avoid selfishness.
“Ukaona uri Joseph mumhuri yenyu asi usingabatsiri vamwe, hausi Joseph. Kuti mumhuri ndiwe wega une mota, ndiwe wega une fuel—regera, regera. Hausi Joseph. Joseph anobatsira hama dzake,” he said, stressing the importance of being one’s brother’s keeper.
Dr Tungwarara described Reverend Chitanda as a deeply spiritual man, despite having known him for only two to three years.
“I came here as an Advisor representing my Boss, President Mnangagwa, although I am also a father-in-law in this family. I am a Christian before anything else. The Bible says there is nothing more joyful than the funeral of a Christian,” he noted.
He added that while the family may feel the pain of loss, Reverend Chitanda himself “is happy in heaven and would not wish to return.”
“He has arrived there and is greeting Abraham, Peter, Mordecai and others—just like Joseph—telling them that I have left mheswamupengo on earth,” he said humorously.
Dr Tungwarara was accompanied by several dignitaries, including Pastors4ED National Chairperson Prophetess Idirashe Dongo.
