Zvimba — Dr Paul Tungwarara, the Investment Special Advisor to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, emphasized the media’s responsibility in shaping the country’s image through constructive reporting.
During a speech at the Provincial Borehole Scheme program in Mashonaland West, held at Newlands in Zvimba, Dr Tungwarara revealed plans to establish a media fund aimed at empowering journalists to promote the positive strides being made in the country.
“The media plays a vital role in countering the spread of falsehoods, particularly on social platforms.
“Today, I am providing support to patriotic media professionals so they can use their platforms to highlight the great work being done by our President for the nation,” Dr Tungwarara said.
He urged the media to focus on unity, which the President and his administration exemplify, working together for the country’s prosperity.
As part of the event, journalists from both public and private media outlets were presented with the latest iPhones, as a gesture of appreciation.
Dr Tungwarara also announced the launch of the media fund, where journalists will be eligible for interest-free loans.
The program in Mashonaland West marked the ninth province to roll out the Presidential Borehole Scheme, benefiting war veterans with boreholes and three-roomed houses, along with interest-free loans.
Hon. Marian Chombo, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, highlighted the importance of honoring the role of war veterans in securing the country’s freedom.
“This initiative from the President is a testament to our commitment to always cherish and honor our freedom fighters. The government will continue to ensure that our war veterans are respected and well-supported,” she said.
Douglas Mahiya, ZANU PF Politburo Secretary for Veterans of the Liberation, also expressed gratitude to the war veterans, reinforcing the government’s respect for their contribution to Zimbabwe’s freedom.
“The President deeply values the sacrifices made by each war veteran, and the government will ensure their lives continue to improve.
“We are also committed to bringing back fallen heroes from abroad for dignified burials,” Mahiya added.
