Opposition Forus Party Zimbabwe leader — Manyara Irene Muyenziwa — says lack of unity after elections has led to division and strife with politicians putting their interests ahead of those of the country.
In her post-election addressing to the nation, Muyenziwa said it was unfortunate that Zimbabwe has not been able to harness to harness the power of unity.
“This had led to a vicious cycle of poverty, underdevelopment and lack of progress. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we can come together as a nation, we have the potential to achieve great things.
“We need to recognize the diversity of views among different communities, so that we can build a truly inclusive society that works for everyone regardless of political affiliation,” she said.
“We need to put people first and prioritize national progress over political egos. By burying differences and working towards a common goal, we can build a brighter future for Zimbabwe.”
Quoting a Shona proverb, Muyenziwa said: ”Rume rimwe harikombi churu which means ‘one man cannot surround an anthill’. It implies that some tasks are too big or difficult for one person to accomplish alone, and that teamwork and cooperation are necessary. This proverb underscores the need for unity and collaboration in achieving our goals.
“If we can unite as a nation, we stand to gain so much. We can achieve faster economic growth, better infrastructure, better education and healthcare, improved standards of living and a brighter future for generations to come.”
She urged Zimbabweans to come together and work towards a common goal.
“Let us prioritize national progress over political egos and put people first. If we can unite, the possibilities are endless. Let us work together to build a brighter future for Zimbabwe,” she said.
