Saruwe — Six suspected cattle rustlers have been arrested in Chegutu after villagers pursued them for stealing four cattle from Chikanga Farm on January 2, 2025.

The suspects were caught in a swift police operation following an alert community chase.

The criminals had slaughtered the cattle and were in the process of deboning the meat when they were spotted by vigilant locals.

Despite a brief escape, the suspects were quickly cornered at a roadblock set up by the police, who had been alerted by the villagers.

The arrested suspects include Owen Tinashe Mandizvidza Mutungamiri (25), Philip Chirasasa (28), Lloyd Chirasasa (44), David Chirasasa (28), Peter Chirasasa (32), and Abel Chirasasa (30).

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrests and detailed the operation. Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, explained: “On January 3 at approximately 02:30 hours, we received a tip-off that the suspects were travelling in a Toyota Noah (reg. no. ADP 440) along the Harare–Bulawayo Road, after being chased by local villagers.

A roadblock was swiftly established, leading to their arrest.” During the arrest, authorities recovered four deboned cattle carcasses, 25 kitchen knives, and 25 sacks.

The suspects now face a mandatory nine-year prison sentence if convicted of stock theft.
