Zimbabwe is set to launch a revamped and well put together modelling contest — SUPERMODEL — a groundbreaking brand and competition designed to unearth the next generation of modeling talent.

The inaugural event focuses on refining beauty, talent, and personality to a world-class standard, SUPERMODEL is set to catapult its winners into the elite realm of international brands and agencies.

The competition is scheduled to commence with a nationwide search in the City of Kings (Bulawayo) on the 6th of July, 2024, followed by a series of live challenges, catwalks, face-offs, and auditions held across various cities and towns in Zimbabwe over the next few months, culminating in the grand finals on the 1st of March, 2025.

One of the organisers — Paidemoyo Chideya — said SUPERMODEL was committed to inclusivity, as the 20 finalists will be signed with the SUPERMODEL agency, offering them the opportunity to work in various capacities within the modeling industry, regardless of race, background, size, or age.

This groundbreaking approach aims to foster the growth of the fashion design industry in Zimbabwe and beyond.

In addition to spotlighting the modeling talent of the country, SUPERMODEL aims to unearth the diverse creative players that contribute to Zimbabwe’s creative economy, including filmmakers, fashion designers, makeup artists, photographers, and more.

The competition also lends its support to the Wear Zimbabwe campaign, advocating for the wearing of local designs and bolstering the Zimbabwean fashion design industry.

The launch held at Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles, SUPERMODEL representative Paidemoyo said that they are committed to providing business training and support, ensuring that their finalists have the opportunity to succeed in the business of fashion, as part of their corporate social responsibility.

“The initiative not only celebrates beauty and talent but also aims to leave a lasting positive impact on the lives of the finalists. We need a village to raise this child. We firmly believe this initiative will bring out the bright sparks of our nation as we nurture and identify talent in the creative industries,” said Chideya.

The SUPERMODEL competition has ignited anticipation within the nation, promising to showcase the extraordinary beauty of Zimbabwe, documenting the journey for all stakeholders to witness and participate in.

This competition is not just a contest; it’s a movement that aims to put Zimbabwe on the global map of fashion and creativity.

The SUPERMODEL team, comprising Paidemoyo Chideya, Tanya Chikuni, and Karin ĆORIĆ, invites the world to join the adventure and follow the journey on social media using the hashtags #supermodelzim, #jointheadventure, and #wearzim.

The presence of popular faces and social media influencers such as Zodwa Mkandla, Nomathemba Primrose Ndebele (Lady Posh), Lilian Madyara (Hollywood Lee), and media personality Rebecca Muchenje (Miss Becky) at the launch further solidified the significance of this initiative.
