The NetOne and Heal Us Zimbabwe 23-day National Walkathon has surpassed the 200-kilometre mark, a powerful reminder that the fight against drug and substance abuse demands endurance, sacrifice and unwavering resolve.
Across Zimbabwe, addiction continues to rob young people of their dreams, fracture families, fuel crime and undermine the nation’s social and economic progress.
Just as recovery is never an overnight process, neither is the journey towards a drug-free Zimbabwe. Every kilometre covered from Beitbridge towards Harare reflects the determination to confront one of the country’s greatest social challenges head-on, one step at a time.
As Zimbabwe’s pioneering mobile network operator, NetOne has chosen to stand at the forefront of this national response by partnering with Heal Us Zimbabwe to transform awareness into action.
The walkathon has become more than a campaign—it is a moving platform for education, rehabilitation advocacy and community engagement.
Through interactions with schools, families, community leaders and recovering addicts, the initiative is breaking the silence surrounding addiction while encouraging young people to reject drugs and embrace a future defined by purpose, productivity and hope.
NetOne Spokesperson, Mr. Ernest Magadzire, said surpassing the 200-kilometre milestone demonstrates the power of collective action in overcoming even the most difficult challenges.
“Every kilometre we walk represents a young person we refuse to give up on and a community we refuse to leave behind. Drug and substance abuse is a battle that affects every family and every community, but together we can change that story.
At NetOne, we believe connectivity is about transforming lives, restoring hope and creating opportunities.
This journey is our commitment to walking alongside Zimbabwe until every young person can realise their full potential,” he said.
Day 6 is a celebration of perseverance. It reminds the nation that meaningful transformation is achieved not by how quickly the destination is reached, but by the courage to keep moving despite the obstacles along the way.
Just as recovering from addiction requires resilience, discipline and the support of others, this walkathon continues to demonstrate that Zimbabwe’s victory over drug and substance abuse will be won through persistence, unity and an unwavering commitment to never stop walking towards a better future.
