Kariba– In a momentous occasion that marks the beginning of a Jubilee year of hope, St Barbara Parish in Diocese of Chinhoyi officially launched the jubilee year of hope at St Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Barbara Parish, part of the Western Deanery.

This celebration follows the historic opening of the Holy Door at St. Peters Basilica in Rome by the Pope on 24 December 2024 and the subsequent ceremonies at cathedrals worldwide.

The Jubilee year occurs every 25 years and its a time for spiritual renewal.
From 6am to 6pm daily, the door at St. Mary’s Church will remain open for parishioners to come for adoration and prayers, during which the Body and Blood of Christ will be in exposition. This initiative aims to foster community spiritual growth.

Father Kaunga, the Dean of the Western Deanery, emphasized the importance of this event during the opening ceremony.

“We are surrounded by challenges, temptations such as drug and substance abuse, unemployment, crime, and teen pregnancies that can divert our paths.

As youth, be mindful of your choices, as they shape not only your destiny but also the future of our communities. The support you are receiving as youths is an opportunity that will remind you that you are valued,” he urged.

The event was attended by various clergy members, including Father James from Karoi, Father Chigumbura from Murereka, and Fathers Dhiri and Mushawasha Snr from Mhangura, along with Father Ailack from St. John the Baptist, Chirundu.

Their presence underscored the collaborative spirit of the deanery in embracing this Jubilee year. And also parishioners from other parishes of the deanery graced the occasion.

As St. Barbara Parish embarks on this journey of hope, the community is encouraged to take part in the daily activities at St. Mary’s Churchhttp://St. Mary’s Church, reinforcing not only their faith but also their commitment to overcoming the challenges that lie ahead.
