A 39-year-old single mother from Chiredzi shed tears of joy after winning ZWL$100000 in ZimGold Millionaire promotion when she bought a case of cooking oil for resale.
Dudzai Lovemary Baloyi who runs a tuckshop in her rural home in Tsovani village had bought the case of ZimGold cooking oil for just ZWL$3660 which she wanted to exchange for buckets of mealie meal from the villagers and never imagined she was up for the big surprise.
“Believe you me, it was my first time to enter in any promotion and never imagined I would win. It was a shocked when I got a call from one of the ZimGold staffers saying I had won the grand prize.
“Unfortunately, on that day my phone battery died before I could give them my details and I had to call the number the next day and they told me to calm down and everything was in place,” she enthused.
Part of the prize money she bought her son — Spamandla Khumalo — a Form 3 pupil a laptop before she went on a shopping spree and the rest of the money she kept in her bank account.
“I am still comfortable and the rest of the money I think I will reinvest in my business,” she said.
Under the ZimGold Millionaire promotion, more than two hundred shoppers have the chance to walk away with various cash prizes daily.
The promotion which started on October 2, 2020 and originally ending on November 15, 2020, has now been extended to the November 30 due to the overwhelming response.
One lucky winner will be walking away with a grand prize of one million dollars in the local currency.
To enter the promotion, a customer can buy a box of ZimGold cooking oil and look for a scratch card in the box, find a pin entry number which they then send to the WhatsApp number on the scratch card.

ZimGold donated cooking oil to Harare Children’s home as part of the company’s fulfilment of its pledge to give back to the community by assisting five humanitarian-based organisations.
Harare Children’s home is the third beneficiary after Lynde Francis Trust and Touching Lives Africa got their share as the brand continues to assist vulnerable communities under the company’s ZimGold Givers community social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Other organisations that are earmarked for the programme are Triple S and Jairos Jiri.
Apart from offering groceries, the company is also stretching a helping hand to the education sector by offering scholarships in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The STEM scholarships saw beneficiaries- Lovejoy Gushungo and Sosten Magweva getting a lifetime opportunity to pursue master’s studies at the Institute of Technology Palakkad (IIT) in India.
The two are currently in India, studying Mechanical Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering, respectively. This year, Pure Oils will award scholarships to two beneficiaries who will be announced soon
The company was among those that offered relief during Covid-19 lockdowns by giving out cooking oil, soaps, and blankets to all the frontline workers who were working during the Corona virus-induced lockdown. The donated goods were handed over to His Excellency, President Emerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa at a ceremony held at the statehouse.
Last year, Zimgold Givers assisted survivors of Cyclone Idai in Chimanimani.
