The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), in partnership with the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA) and Delta Beverages, have announced the loss of three members of the Sekusile Sitshikitsha Dance Group following a tragic road accident.
The accident occurred on 20 July 2025 along the Gweru–Bulawayo highway, as the group was returning home after representing Matabeleland South Province at the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival held at the Mutare Agricultural Showgrounds.
The group—comprising talented and committed performers employed by How Mine in Mzingwane District—was struck by tragedy when the vehicle they were traveling in was involved in the fatal crash.
Three cherished members lost their lives:
Ms S. Mpofu
Ms I.T. Mike
Mr L. Mazara
Several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care. Fortunately, none are hospitalized at this time, though the road to recovery remains long.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the Mpofu, Mike, and Mazara families. The loss of these gifted artists has left an irreplaceable void in Zimbabwe’s cultural and artistic community,” read a joint statement from NACZ, ZNTDA, and Delta Beverages.
As the tripartite partners of the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, the organizations have pledged continued support to the bereaved families and to the remaining members of Sekusile Sitshikitsha as they navigate this painful time.
