In a rare show of confidence Seh Calaz will stage his album launch just a spitting distance from Winky D’s crossover show at HICC on New Year’s Eve.
The Mumota Menyu Mukubvira hitmaker has not been a fan of Winky D since the beginning and the latest show of defiance is hardly surprising.
But as they say competition is healthy you cannot blame Calaz for launching his new album — Reggae Dzinorira on the same day as Winky D launches his new album.
At times as they say the best man will win.
While Calaz maybe out at City Sports Centre the ceremonial home of Zm dancehall music, Winky D will have his album launch at the Harare International Conference Centre.
Truth is both shows will have a fair of fans considering Calaz has the backing of top promoter Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions.
Chipaz Promotions have built a firm base and brand over the years and there is no Zim dancehall gig like a Chipaz gig.
That said, Winky D’s album launch is backed by Gateway Stream who are still trying to promote their brand as promoters and streaming platform.
And Winky D could be their best bet as he commands a huge following.
The difference is the line- up.
Calaz boasts several supporting acts at the show including Dadza D, Bazooker, Silent Killer, Kinnah, Celscius, Lady Squanda, Ndunge Yutm, Kabhidha, Uncle Epatan, Hwinza, Jah Noz, Doba Don, Blot and Pumacol.
Honestly speaking these are the youngsters who are running Zim dancehall at the moment since every other big names are drifting from the genre.
On the other hand, Winky D’s show has the likes of Nutty O, Killer T, Enzo Shall, Holy Ten, Tocky Vibes and Saintfloew.
But asked why they chose the same dates, Chipaz said both shows were complementing each other.
It remains to be seen who will pull the biggest crowd!
