Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited today donated some fruit juices including the popular Mazoe range of juices to Bumhudzo Old People’s Home in Chitungwiza.
In handing over the goodies, Ropafadzo Gwanetsa, the Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited Corporate Affairs Executive, said the gesture was meant to conscientise other corporates to pull their resources together and support the communities and the vulnerable.

“This drive that we are on right is to engage our communities that we operate in with a focus on marginalised communities the elderly, the orphaned children that we are visiting today so that at least they get support from corporates in terms of their needs and how we can collaborate so that our programmes are sustainable.
“Mainly we are driven by SGD goals so we need to make sure that whatever commitments that we are making to communities all those initiatives are sustainable, they need to be replicated so that it’s just not a short-term measure that we are putting in place but its sustainable. We need to make sure that our communities are supported.

“March is a women’s month I think as a business we saw it necessary to reach out to the vulnerable communities because this is where we operate in this is where we generate business so this campaign was driven by women’s month,” Gwanetsa said.
A resident Gogo Betty Samombe aged 93 thanked Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited for the donation saying it was up to Zimbabweans to look after the elderly.
Gogo Samombe also pleaded with Schweppes Zimbabwe to assist the Old People’s Home by way of acquiring a new tour bus and poultry project for protein and business.
She said while they were being accommodated and dressed at the home, they also needed to take time out on tours hence the bus was needed to replace the old one which was broken down.
Bumhudzo located in Chitungwiza is run by The Salvation Army and was opened in 1974 aimed at caring for the destitute elderly above 60 and has been haven for the sick and homeless.
It has a capacity of 110 residents but nowadays there are only 27 people with 16 males and 11 females.
