REVIEW: Rain Akai ft Ti Gonzi drop BullSh*t

Canadian-based Zimbabwean singer/songwriter/composer Rain Akai has released her first hip-hop track simply titled Bullsh*t featuring rapper Ti Gonzi.

Rain Akai whose real name is Melissa Natasha Nyamushanya, drops her syrup laced verses on a laidback beat while gelling with Ti Gonzi whose style includes mixing English and Shona rhymes.

The track showcases the other side of soulful Rain Akai who has been putting out a lot of RnB tracks before she tried out hip-hop.

Rains Drops, her fans will be more than happy to listen to the track which again introduces her to the world of Zim hip-hop.

To ensure Rain Drops won’t ask if she is from the motherland or not Rain Akai also raps a few lines in Shona claiming her spot as one of the female rappers to watch out for.

“Yes, hip-hop track! So that’s why I got Ti Gonzi becaue I know he is respected in the hip-hop community back come in Zimbabwe,” she said adding that, “The video is coming soon.”

Bullsh*t is likely to follow on the success of her previous hi song Netiflix and Chill.

For those not in the know, Rain Akai is a university graduate from Brock University after finishing her studies in 2016.

She is a holder of an Honors degree in Sociology and her major was criminology.

Her first live performance was at AfroFest, which is the largest free African Music Festival in North America.

In a city in need of for positive and hopeful narratives, AFROFEST draws over 125,000 visitors to Woodbine Park each year to celebrate African culture.

Each year is larger than the previous and over half those present have been to at least five previous versions of the event.

AfroFest is a rare opportunity to speak to the African diaspora in a space that celebrates African culture.
