Mazowe, Zimbabwe – President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has unveiled a transformative agricultural and economic revival strategy, driven by respected technocrat Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei, who chairs the Land Tenure Implementation Technical Committee.
This initiative marks a pivotal shift in Zimbabwe’s development agenda, aiming to unlock the full potential of land through secure tenure and productivity-focused support.
As part of this historic programme, 1,000 A1 farmers in Mazowe District have been issued Land Tenure Title Deeds and 1-hectare Productivity Booster Kits—a landmark development hailed as both a national milestone and a model for regional empowerment across Africa.
Productivity Booster Kits: A Game Changer for Farmers
Each participating farmer receives a USD $6,000 loan facility, supported by a consortium of over five local banks, repayable over seven years.
The package includes irrigation equipment designed to cover one hectare per farmer, aimed at significantly improving agricultural efficiency and output.
The Land Title Deeds, on the other hand, are payable over a 20-year period, offering farmers long-term land security and peace of mind—key to driving sustainable development in the agricultural sector.
Restoring Dignity, Ensuring Sustainability
President Mnangagwa underscored the programme’s national significance, saying:
“Haisi mari yekuno rooresa asi yekusimudza nyika”
(“This is not money to waste the land — it is money to uplift the nation.”)
This reflects the broader ethos of the initiative: combining economic empowerment with national dignity and productivity.
‘Sanctions Buster’ and Model for Africa
National Chairman of #TITLEDEEDS4ED, Dr. George Commando “GD6” Dhliwayo, lauded the initiative as a bold step forward:
“This is a sanctions buster. The world is now coming to Zimbabwe to learn heritage-based economic growth.”
Dr. Tagwirei’s leadership in the Land Tenure Implementation Committee is seen as central to restoring confidence, enabling access to credit, and driving innovation in the agricultural space.
A New Chapter for Zimbabwe’s Land Reform
This programme represents a closure to the land reform process by transitioning beneficiaries from land access to land ownership, while providing the tools they need to be productive and self-sufficient.
Guided by VISION 2030, Zimbabwe is on course to reclaim its position as the breadbasket of Africa—with land tenure security and productivity at the core of its economic growth strategy.
As quoted from the Bible in Genesis 41:38:
“Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?”
The scripture echoes sentiments around Dr. Tagwirei’s visionary leadership as Zimbabwe embarks on its Great Restoration.
This initiative is more than a policy—it is a movement. It seeks to reawaken Zimbabwe’s agricultural potential, uplift communities, and demonstrate that homegrown solutions rooted in heritage and innovation can pave the way for national prosperity.
