The Nyaminyami Rural District Annual Agricultural Show was held from July 7 to 10, 2025, in Siakobvu, under the theme “Agriculture as a Vehicle for Market-Oriented Extension Service Delivery for Sustainable Agriculture.”
The event was officially opened by Mr. Takura Mahanzu, who stood in for the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Marian Chombo.
The show brought together a diverse range of stakeholders—including Matusiadona National Parks Conservation, Wild Conservation Action, and the Nyaminyami Rural District Authority—who showcased their knowledge and services to empower local farmers.
The exhibition highlighted agricultural innovation and excellence, with farmers proudly displaying their produce and earning prizes across various categories.
Government officials used the platform to spotlight key agricultural support programs such as Village Business Units (VBUs), Pfumvudza agro-ecological matching, and the Presidential Fisheries Scheme.
These initiatives aim to boost food security, encourage sustainable farming practices, and enhance rural livelihoods.
A central focus of the event was the urgent need to adapt to climate change. Presenters urged farmers to adopt drought-tolerant and disease-resistant seed varieties tailored to their local ecological zones.
These adjustments, they emphasized, are critical for ensuring long-term productivity and resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
While acknowledging existing challenges such as transport limitations and resource shortages, the event also served as a platform for advocacy.
Chairperson Pedzisai Mungena made a heartfelt appeal for greater support from higher offices to equip and empower farmers to overcome these hurdles.
Beyond agriculture, the show featured a vibrant cultural program that included traditional dance, choir performances, modeling, and even a drinking competition, creating a festive and inclusive atmosphere for all attendees.
District Agritex Extension Officer Joel Mpariwa praised the growing collaboration between farmers and extension workers.
He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to advancing agriculture in Kariba district, saying, “We are ready to take agriculture to the next level.”
One standout of the event was Jannet Banda from Ward 8 Mavhuramachena, who took first prize in crop farming.
In her acceptance remarks, she encouraged fellow citizens to view farming as a business and a viable path to prosperity.
She also called on the government to provide more resources and support to help farmers reach their full potential.
The Nyaminyami Agricultural Show successfully highlighted the central role of agriculture in the district’s development.
It underscored both the opportunities and challenges faced by farmers and demonstrated how coordinated efforts from government, stakeholders, and the community can lead to sustainable agricultural growth.
As Nyaminyami looks to the future, it is clear that agriculture will remain a key driver of economic development and food security.
With continued investment and support, the district is poised to become a regional model for resilience and innovation in farming.
