The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) is set to commemorate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work reaffirming its commitment to promoting occupational safety and health in the workplace.
The event serves as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of preventing work-related injuries, illnesses and fatalities.
The 2025 World Day for Safety and Health is an important occasion to raise awareness about the need for safe and healthy working environments and (NSSA) is set to mark this day on the 9th of May at Cookesey Hall Memorial Park in Chinhoyi.
Running under the theme “Technology and Future of Work” the theme highlights the importance of adapting to new technologies and work practices to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
As technology continues to evolve and play a larger role in the workplace, it is essential that employers and employees alike are aware of the potential hazards and benefits that come with it.
In an interview with Chinhoyi Region Public Relations Officer with NSSA Melusi Moyo, he said the event is a valuable opportunity for the Organisation to share best practices and promote a culture of prevention in the workplace and they are preparing to commemorate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on May and he was pleased to confirm that all arrangements were in place for a successful event.
He said the team was working tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the commemoration is well-planned and executed reflecting their commitment to promoting occupational safety and health.
“As the Government agency, we are prepared to commemorate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on the 9th and I am pleased to confirm that all arrangements are in place for a successful event. The (PRO) spoke on preparedness to host the commemorations and he said that the commemoration will feature a range of activities including first aid drills, fire drills, dramas, music, work display, corporate displays and drum majorettes and these activities he said are designed to engage participants and promote safety and health in the workplace.
“We are excited to announce that preparations for the World Day for Safety and Health commemorations are well underway and we are working tirelessly to ensure that this year’s event is informative, engaging and fun for all attendees.
“With a range of activities planned including first aid drills, fire drills and cultural performances and we are confident that this event will be an unforgettable experience,” said Moyo
World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an annual international campaign observed in April every year in order to promote safe and healthy working environments.
The day aims to raise awareness about occupational accidents and diseases globally and to promote a safety and health culture that can reduce work-related deaths and injuries.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) started observing this day in 2003 as part of its Global Strategy on Occupational Safety and Health and it highlights the importance of prioritising occupational safety and health and encourages governments, employers and workers to take action to prevent workplace accidents and diseases.
According to the ILO, approximately over 2.78 million workers die each year due to work-related accidents and illnesses, emphasising the need for continued awareness and action.
The commemoration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is expected to be graced by several dignitaries including the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, the Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution.
Other esteemed guests include heads of departments and other prominent figures who will join in marking this important occasion.
