Mobile network operator — NetOne — says it is coming up with solutions and platforms that allow for people to live their lives and ensure everything they need is available on their phones.
In marking World Telecommunications and Information Society Day commemorations held recently in Murombedzi, Zvimba, Roselyn Chisveto, the NetOne Head Marketing and Public Relations, said they were speaking to the needs of the people.
“As a digital solutions network, what we are saying is; that we are speaking to the needs of the people, identifying and we are coming up with solutions and platforms that allow people to live their life, and ensure that everything they need, they get – even through their mobile phone.
“So, we are ensuring that we really keep up with the trends and we really ensure that we live to the expectations, of the market – what they are expecting to receive from us. It is our duty to ensure that we continue to connect the unconnected and not leave any place or anyone behind. So, we are really walking the talk,” she said.
This year’s World Telecommunications and Information Society Day Commemorations was themed: “Digital Technologies for Older Persons and Healthy Ageing.”
Reiterating the theme, Chisveto said it was important to include the elderly in their drive to connect the unconnected.
“And, as NetOne, we pride ourselves on the widest coverage. We have been reaching out to all the communities, and our focus has been to connect communities that are really in remote areas.
“And, this year fits well with the mandate that we have and the trust that we have been pursuing as an organization.
“We have efforts that we are putting in place to ensure that apart from ourselves, in terms of our network expansion drive, we are also putting efforts to ensure educate the elderly on how they can actually utilize ICTs for the advancement of their lives,” she said.
“Particularly, if you look at agriculture, it is one of the key focus areas that we have. We have been driving smart agriculture and we have our product – Hurudza, Umlimi umkulu which we have launched, which is really speaking to efforts that we are making to ensure that when it comes to livestock, crops, and weather conditions – all that information is going to be availed to the elderly just by the click of the button.”
She said efforts were being put in place to ensure inclusion of the elderly.
“So this year, as we celebrate World Telecommunications Day, it is also our thrust to ensure that we also speak to the elderly’s health.
“The elderly, you know, looking at that particular age, health is very key and critical. So, this year we are coming out with our one health product that we have also launched, and which is also speaking to the elderly in terms of how best they can live a healthy living, at such a time where are issues to do with BP, diabetes – those are some of the things that emerge with age.
“So, what we are saying is that we are connecting people, we are ensuring that information is available and that we communicate and provide up-to-date information with regards to health information- and tips that we have been channelling through our network to ensure that we communicate such critical issues that are really affecting lives,” Chisveto said.
