HARARE — Telecommunications giant NetOne has officially announced that it will not be partnering with Albun Fitness for the 2026 edition of the Honde Valley Marathon, bringing an end to a collaboration that had become a highlight of Zimbabwe’s sporting calendar.
In a media statement issued by its Public Relations Office, NetOne advised stakeholders and members of the public of its decision while striking a notably cordial tone toward the fitness organisation behind the marathon.
“We appreciate Albun Fitness for the engagement and the opportunity to explore collaboration around the event,” the company said, adding that it wishes Albun Fitness and all participants a successful Honde Valley Marathon.
Despite the decision to step back from this year’s event, NetOne reaffirmed its broader commitment to supporting initiatives that promote fitness, healthy communities, empowerment and national development.
The NetOne Albun Honde Valley Marathon had grown into one of Zimbabwe’s most anticipated sporting events since its inaugural edition.
The marathon, set against the scenic backdrop of the Honde Valley tea estates in Manicaland, gained international recognition as a World Athletics-certified event and served as a qualifier for the prestigious Comrades Marathon in South Africa.
The race was the brainchild of former Warriors and CAPS United football star Alois Bunjira, who fused his forename and surname to create the “Albun” brand, with the event held in his birthplace.
The marathon’s success has been credited with boosting sports tourism in the Eastern Highlands and drawing attention to the beauty of the Honde Valley.
