In a heartwarming display of corporate social responsibility, Zimbabwe’s leading mobile network operator, NetOne, is spreading festive cheer to the Matthew Rusike Children’s Home in Mzingwane, Matabeleland South Province, as part of its annual Christmas Cheers initiative.
The event, scheduled to feature a day of shared meals, laughter, and donations, underscores NetOne’s unwavering commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities.
Executives and team members from the company will spend quality time with orphaned children, creating unforgettable memories while emphasizing the importance of social inclusion.
Speaking about the initiative, NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, highlighted the company’s alignment with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“This outreach program directly supports national objectives, especially in the areas of social protection and human capital development,” said Eng. Mushanawani.
“It also advances SDG 1 on eradicating poverty and SDG 10 on reducing inequalities, which remain central to our mission of making a difference in people’s lives.”
Central to the celebration is a generous donation of Christmas hampers filled with essential groceries to ensure the children at the home experience a joyous festive season. NetOne’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Learnmore Musunda, emphasized the deeper purpose of the initiative: “At NetOne, we believe our role extends beyond telecommunications.
Spending time with these children and sharing a meal with them embodies our commitment to building stronger, more connected communities.”
Mr. Musunda also referenced NetOne’s broader commitment to affordability and accessibility in telecommunications.
“Our Dollar A Day bundles, which provide extensive talk time at cost-effective rates, reflect our mission to keep Zimbabweans connected, particularly during meaningful times like the festive season,” he added.
Honorable Levi Mayihlome, the constituency’s representative, commended the initiative, calling it a “transformative example of private-public partnership.” He praised NetOne for its role in supporting vulnerable children, noting, “Matthew Rusike Children’s Home has been a haven for countless young lives. NetOne’s gesture today ensures this sanctuary continues its incredible work in shaping a brighter future for the children.”
The event will feature a shared lunch between NetOne staff and the children, offering a rare opportunity for meaningful interaction while bringing smiles and joy to the young residents. NetOne’s efforts exemplify how the corporate sector can play a vital role in fostering hope and creating lasting social impact.
Through initiatives like Christmas Cheers, NetOne is cementing its reputation as not only a telecommunications leader but also a responsible corporate citizen devoted to the wellbeing of vulnerable Zimbabweans.
By blending compassion with action, NetOne continues to light the way for sustainable community development.
This Christmas, the children of Matthew Rusike Children’s Home won’t just receive gifts—they’ll also gain the priceless experience of knowing they are cared for and valued.
