Zim dancehall prodigy — Ndunge Yut — has dropped a track aimed at encouraging jailed comrades and ChillSpot Records shareholders — DJ Fantan and Levels — to not lose hope.
The two were sentenced an effective six months in prison for violating Covid-19 regulations following a super-spreader gig held on New Year’s Eve in Mbare where music fans gathered in their thousands.
While the two are behind bars Zim dancehall continues with Ndunge Yut being one of the first Chillspot Records signees to drop a song dedicated to Levels and hype man DJ Fantan who were the brains behind the New Year’s Eve block party.
In the song titled Hello Levels na Fantan, Ndunge Yut exudes sober habits although in the video he was dramatic as ever.
He appears chained and dressed in security guard uniform wielding a baton stick.
He sings: “Hello Levels na Fantan ndafona hamuna kudaira, app hamusi kupindura muri kufara here kwamuri kuri bho here muri safe here.”
He also bemoans the travel ban imposed by Government as part of plans to contain the spread of the Coronavirus. Citizens have to have letters to justify their travel and according to Ndunge Yut he says since the incarceration of Levels and DJ Fantan, youths have nothing to do and they can’t visit them at the prison because they do not have the travel letters.
It is really a touching song considering that both Levels and DJ Fantan made Zim dancehall a competitive genre supporting the lives of many ghetto youths.
Since 2007 ChillSpot Records has churned out many youths who became stars in their own right and earning a living through Zim dancehall.
Ndunge Yut came out from nowhere to become one of the most promising artists in Zim dancehall after the release of his hit Sekuru Ndunge. Thanks to DJ Fantan who showed him the way to navigate in the music jungle before he blew up.
