The National Aids Council launched the 2023 World Aids Day theme song and logo ahead of the global commemorations day tomorrow (Thursday).
December 1 is marked World Aids Day across the globe.
Standing in for NAC Chief Executive Officer Bernand Madzima, the NAC communications director Madelin Dube, unveiled the logo at a glamorous occasion in Harare before handing over the banner to this year’s host province of the commemorations, Mashonaland East.
The theme for the globe is “Equalise” but Zimbabwe went ahead and merged it into a local one after consultations with communities.
The localized theme is “a e i o u” which is an abbreviation for “access to health services, empowerment, opportunities, human rights”.
Dube said the significance of the theme is that Zimbabweans will be able to internalise the issues and action them.
“We saw that last year when we were talking about ending pandemics, in terms of Covid 19, people came up to take vaccines and we had reduced numbers of infected people.”
“This time we are saying Equalise and there are five aspects that need to be equalised. We have internalised the message so that we understand it better.”
“So we are saying all people must have the aspects,” said Dube.
Trust Chigovera, the NAC Advocacy Coordinator said communities had been given an opportunity to contribute towards creation of the local theme.
The theme song was headlined by Willis Watafi and its title is Equalise.
Dancehall Keddah, Mark Ngwazi and Yolanda Munyengwa completes the set of the collaboration.
The logo has a scale emphasizing on need to equalise the five aspects.
Tomorrow’s commemorations will be held at Rudhaka stadium in Marondera.
