As Zimbabweans gather with family and friends to celebrate Christmas, Chimurenga music maestro Dr Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo has delivered a heartfelt message urging the nation to embrace love, compassion, and responsibility during the festive season.
In a short but powerful Christmas message, the iconic musician reminded citizens that the festive period is not only about celebration, but also about caring for one another—especially on the country’s roads, which often become busy and dangerous during holidays.
“May we all be as careful and considerate to others on the roads as we travel during this festive season,” Mapfumo said, calling for patience and respect among motorists and travelers.
Beyond road safety, the legendary artist urged Zimbabweans to remember those who are less privileged, encouraging a spirit of sharing that reflects the true meaning of Christmas.
“Let’s not forget the less privileged and love each other,” he said.
Known for using his music to speak to social justice, unity, and the struggles of ordinary people, Mapfumo’s message resonated with many as a reminder that national values should not be lost amid celebration. His words echo the Chimurenga philosophy of collective responsibility and togetherness.
As the year comes to a close, Mapfumo also extended his well-wishes for the new year, offering a blessing for the nation.
