More often than not, film festivals have a tendency to be places of workshopping. People come watch films then attend workshops and they leave.
This sort of thing isn’t ideal for business people who even if they enjoy films they also want to do business.
And now Fronteras Capital, a Zimbabwean investment group, in collaboration with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) is introducing Mosi Oa Tunya International Film Festival (MOTIFF) set to take place in the breathtaking backdrop of Victoria Falls from 1 – 4 August 2024.
The festival aims to celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of Zimbabwe and beyond, showcasing a diverse selection of films that capture the essence of storytelling through the lens of cinema.
Film is a major global industry and Africa sits on endless talent.
According to Dumisani Nyoni, a director with MOTIFF there is a large appetite on the continent and abroad for fresh content and opportunities abound for those with an artistic and entrepreneurial spirit.
“The MOTIFF is a meeting point of capital and the creative, opening up an emerging growth sector for investors, artists and the business minded.
“Writers, actors, musicians, fashionistas, sound and lighting experts, editors, distributors, broadcasters, food and beverage experts, policy makers, set-designers, investors and finance experts – all make up the film industry.
“The MOTIFF brings them together to relaunch an industry in Zimbabwe that will discover its place in the wonderful world of film. You have a part in this script. Get involved! A story like no other begins . . .,” Nyoni said.
