The Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services has commended NetOne for its transformative role in accelerating Zimbabwe’s digital tourism agenda, positioning the sector as a key pillar in the delivery of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, the Permanent Secretary Dr. Beaulah Chirume applauded NetOne’s strategic partnership with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), describing it as a model of whole-of-government collaboration driving tangible, technology-led national development outcomes.
At the centre of this partnership was NetOne’s handover of 50 ICT devices to ZTA—an intervention Dr. Chirume said goes far beyond equipment provision, representing a deliberate investment in Zimbabwe’s digital future and the operationalisation of the recently launched National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
“This programme is not incidental—it is a deliberate, government-led intervention anchored on coordinated institutional action.
“As ministries and agencies, we must now prioritise the generation of structured, high-quality data, enabled by modern digital tools, to inform policy, enhance service delivery, and drive economic growth,” she said.
Dr. Chirume underscored the importance of leveraging technology to transform tourism into a smart, data-driven sector, capable of delivering globally competitive visitor experiences. She challenged stakeholders to utilise the deployed digital tools as a foundation for predictive analytics, real-time insights, and intelligent tourism management systems.
NetOne’s role in this transformation continues to expand as the country’s leading digital enabler. Through sustained investment in 5G infrastructure, public Wi-Fi expansion in strategic tourism corridors, and innovative solutions such as tourist e-SIMs preloaded with destination intelligence, the operator is redefining how visitors experience Zimbabwe—seamlessly, safely, and digitally.
These interventions directly support NDS2 priorities, including digital transformation, infrastructure development, innovation, and inclusive economic growth, while strengthening Zimbabwe’s competitiveness in the global tourism marketplace.
The partnership between the Ministry of ICT, ZTA, and NetOne reflects a whole-of-government and whole-of-economy approach, where public institutions and the private sector converge to deliver scalable, technology-driven solutions.
This integrated model ensures that digital infrastructure is not deployed in isolation, but is embedded within national development frameworks to maximise impact.
By prioritising structured data ecosystems, smart connectivity, and AI-enabled service delivery, the initiative is laying the groundwork for a future-ready tourism sector—one that is resilient, intelligent, and aligned with global digital trends.
